With Ocean Queen, Griet Van Malderen captures a rare moment: a desert-born lioness choosing the sea as her home, symbolizing resilience and adaptation. Created after five years of field study with Namibian desert lions, the work was awarded in the “Animals in Their Environment” category of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2025 competition, organized by the Natural History Museum in London.
