PHILIPPE VAN GELE New featured artist Philippe Van Gele was born is Ghent, Belgium, in 1979 where he lives and works ever since. Despite being a young and emerging artist, he already has a very remarkable style of his own. His works are abstract landscapes, which evoke foreign and distant places: Choctawhatchee, Ushuaia, … mythical places with an aura of their own that he represents in his works. Although the landscapes seem very abstract at first sight, there is yet a remarkable resemblance with the reality! When it comes to techniques, Van Gele uses acrylic paint worked out in length, dripped out or scratched to produce a hazy yet powerful effect. The pieces are colorful in a way that is not garish but rather astonishingly soft and peaceful, so that they ooze an aura of mystery. |
