SCULPTOR OF STRENGTH AND SENSITIVITY
Jürgen Lingl is a contemporary sculptor known for his powerful and expressive animal sculptures in wood and bronze. Born in 1971 in Bad Tölz, Bavaria, he developed a passion for art from an early age and trained in wood sculpture under master Hans-Joachim Seitfudem.
Since 1999, Jürgen Lingl has lived and worked in France, where he has developed a distinctive sculptural language combining technical precision with raw energy and movement. Wood, particularly spruce, is one of his preferred materials, alongside bronze.
Jürgen Lingl and his wood sculptures
What makes Jürgen Lingl’s sculptures particularly distinctive is his unconventional working method. Using a chainsaw, the sculptor carves directly into large blocks of wood, creating bold forms and expressive textures. The sculpture is subsequently refined by hand with chisels and gouges, allowing finer details and character to emerge.
The visible traces of the creative process remain an important part of each work. Rather than hiding the marks of the chainsaw, Jürgen Lingl incorporates them into the sculpture, giving his work its characteristic sense of movement, strength and vitality.
Animal sculptures full of movement
Animals form a central theme within the work of sculptor Jürgen Lingl. His often life-sized animal sculptures combine anatomical precision with a highly expressive approach.
Lions, wolves, horses and other animals appear powerful and almost alive. Lingl does not simply reproduce their physical appearance: he seeks to capture their movement, character and presence. This balance between realism and expressive sculpture gives his work its distinctive identity.
Jürgen Lingl bronze sculptures
Many of Jürgen Lingl’s original wood sculptures are also produced as limited-edition bronze sculptures. The bronze versions retain much of the texture and energy of the original wood carvings.
In several works, traces of the wood grain and carving process remain visible in the bronze surface. This creates a direct connection between the original wooden sculpture and its bronze interpretation, while giving the work a monumental and timeless character.
A contemporary sculptor with international recognition
Today, Jürgen Lingl is an internationally exhibited contemporary sculptor whose work can be found in private and public collections around the world. His combination of traditional craftsmanship, chainsaw carving and expressive animal sculpture has given him a recognizable position within contemporary figurative sculpture.
Through both his wood and bronze sculptures, Jürgen Lingl continues to explore strength, movement and the character of the natural world.
