Tom Martin was born in Wakefield, England in 1986. He graduated from the University of Huddersfield in 2008 and holds a First Class Honours BA degree in Interdisciplinary Art & Design.
Tom Martin is among the foremost young realist painters working today! Almost photographic in their appearance, Martin’s paintings exhibit painstaking attention to the slightest detail. A mixture of figurative painting and still life, he works in a traditional manner of art production, albeit in a way which tackles the most contemporary of subjects. He has participated in a number of exhibitions both in galleries and museums worldwide and has worked on both public and private collections. Martin recently exhibited a solo presentation of his work entitled ‘Everything & Nothing’ at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, Indiana USA. The museum added one of his paintings to their permanent collection at the close of the exhibition. Martin won FWMoA’s Contemporary Realism Biennial 2014 Exhibition Award, an exhibition of the most compelling trends in realism, as explored by the most skilled American and international artists. He also received the ‘Rotherham Artist of the Year Under 25’ award (UK) in 2007.
Martin’s recent series of work focuses on money and the effect it has on the global population. For some, money is everything; to others, nothing. Hyper-Tom’s – as he is known – work is exhibited worldwide in cities such as Melbourne, Montreal, London and New York.
